Welcome!
This is my countdown to my 30th birthday. Thanks for stopping by.
This life I’m on often feels like a great adventure, and it is my pleasure to share it with anyone who is interested.
I am a writer and chef. I am an American woman living in Tel Aviv, editing my novel, working ocassionally in food and wine. I hail from Chicago, and I’ve lived all over the world for short to pretty long spells. Past incarnations (which often resurface) have included artist, theatre director, PR specialist, arts administrator, and editor. I have made my living in the past primarily in museums and theaters, until a recent foray into the world of internet startup…an experience I’m recently and happily rid of, but may return to…who knows. It’s Israel, and everyone seems to work in “high tech.” Turns my stomach sometimes, the beige meaningless blandness of it all, but it is a way to earn a very good living. Ah, the ever-present conflict…survival, life, contentment, joy, making it, selling out…how do we do it? How to get through it? How to live? How to enjoy? And what does it all mean? Well, nothing of course.
I am always a voracious reader, a world traveler, a feminist, a science fiction enthusiast, a modest trekkie, pseudo-polyglot (do three and fragments of a few more languages count?), singer, thinker, philosopher, dreamer, daydreamer, scholar, actor, investigator, and of course, and primary to them all, a human being. I’m a weird one. Always have been.
I think that being alive makes us explorers. Yeehaw!
I am curious, and I am hungry. Literally and figuratively. This is key.
And this is my countdown to my 30th birthday. July 31, 2009. The day.
See my list of things to accomplish before thirty.

There are so many things that I enjoy about your blog, from your bio, to your candid experiences with anti-depressants. Your birthday is one day after mine, and I too, have had my fair share of crazy experiences with Cipralex. Check out my blog if you have the chance
Hey chefashley – thanks! I’m glad you’re enjoying it. What’s your blog? I don’t see it linked. I’ll be happy to check it out.
